Supervisors

Voltage Supervisor ICs (commonly known as Reset ICs or Power Monitors) are ultra-low-power safety devices designed to continuously monitor power supply rails in digital electronic boards. When a monitored voltage falls below a factory-set or resistor-programmed threshold, or when a processor watchdog timer times out, the supervisor asserts a system reset signal, preventing digital processors from executing erroneous code during power-up brownouts or power-down transients.

Supervisors ensure clean processor boot-up cycles by delaying the release of the reset signal for a fixed time (reset timeout period, typically tens of milliseconds) to allow power rails to stabilize. Key selection parameters include monitored channel count (single to octal rails), threshold voltage accuracy (typically within 1%), supply current (microamps to nanoamps), watchdog timer integration, manual reset input, and output type (open-drain, push-pull, active-low/high). AEC-Q100 variants are critical for automotive ECUs.
