Full and Half-Bridge Drivers

Full-Bridge and Half-Bridge Driver ICs are high-power gate driver components designed to translate low-power digital control signals from microcontrollers into the coordinated, high-current, high-voltage gate drive signals required to switch power MOSFETs, IGBTs, or SiC devices in half-bridge or full-bridge (H-bridge) topologies. These drivers are the muscle behind Class-D audio amplifiers, high-efficiency switching power supply converter stages, and bidirectional DC motor drives.

Bridge drivers must ensure strict non-overlapping switching to prevent disastrous "shoot-through" short circuits across the power rails, utilizing programmable dead-time generator logic. Selection criteria depend on peak sink/source current (A), operating voltage rating (often up to 100V for commercial and 600V+ for offline grids), propagation delay, level-shifting capability, and bootstrap circuit integration. High-frequency designs require minimal propagation delay skew.
